Sacred Geometry and the Art of Urban and Community Design to Create Meaningful Places

Elevate the everyday with a fusion of timeless design connecting people to places, energy and purpose.

Balancing the art of nature with skillful design, Vashon Design Group honors the ever-expanding zenith of sacred geometry to conceive and design communities that harmonize with nature and fulfill the human soul. Sacred community design creates everlasting places that reconnect us to one another and to nature’s infinite majesty.

Symbolic Design Principles

Embedded in every thriving system in nature and virtually every building, work of art, and city that has stood the test of time, behind everything we regard as “beautiful” is a set of principles that serves as the foundation of harmony and balance. This is the foundation of the new wave of urban and community design.

Harmony

Design that is in harmonic resonance with all life forms.

Nature

Design that integrates proven best planning practices with the fundamental laws of nature.

Community

Design that celebrates the unique characteristics of place by honoring culture, preserving nature, implementing the foundational tools of all life forms and designing places for all.

Geometry

Design seeded deep in geometric symbolism, proportion and form to create beautiful places.

Nature

Design that speaks to the soul of place through symbolism, form and connection.

Place

Design that connects people to place by creating mind, body and spiritual connection.

Wisdom

Design that utilizes ancient wisdom with modern design solutions.

About

Vashon Marie Sarkisian

My interest in soul-filled community design began more than 30 years ago when I first began working as an urban designer. I wondered how aesthetics, nature, history of community design, the spirituality of landscapes and the evolution of societies all played a role in how I designed places where people would eventually live, work and play. It was this journey that led me to sacred geometry. I believe that the art of designing places with the foundational principles of nature to create dynamic, innovative and sustainable communities will serve as the template for the creation of neighborhoods, villages and towns of the future.

Approach

I have a strong desire to create communities that are sustainably designed, and this is reflected in every aspect of my approach to the design process. I look at each project individually and holistically to find a unique solution for each site through the lens of creative expression, problem solving and my love for placemaking.

Passion

I am passionate about designing communities that foster a sense of place, respect the higher laws of nature, inspire beauty and create connections. Connections formed to one another, to the cycles of nature and to the greater order existing in all life forms.

Experience

During my 30+ year career as an urban and community designer I have worked on a wide range of projects ranging from the development of new towns to small infill projects. My experience in land planning and design and my love for the land provides my holistic and integrated approach to creating soulful communities.

Projects

Baldwin Park Redevelopment

Orlando, FL

Vashon was a Designer/Community Planner for Baldwin Park, an 1,110-acre development based on the principles of New Urbanism. Providing a mix of uses, pedestrian friendly streets, schools, pocket parks, vernacular architecture and preservation of environmental systems, this community is one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Orlando.

Horizon West

Orange County, FL

Vashon was part of a team of planners and designers to
master plan 24,000 acres of mostly destroyed citrus land to create a new town and series of walkable  villages. With roots in the garden city movement of the early 1900’s, Horizon West is now a highly coveted, award-winning community in Central Florida.

Independence

Orange County, FL

Vashon was responsible for the design of the 1,396-acre master plan for the Independence Neighborhood in Horizon West.
She worked closely with the client, architects, landscape
architects and environmental consultants to develop a plan consisting of neighborhoods that are centered around schools
and parks, provides connectivity through trails and natural
systems, encourages architectural diversity and features a
diverse mix of land uses.

The projects represented here reflect work by Vashon during her tenure as a corporate urban and community designer and do not necessarily reflect elements of Sacred Geometry.

Sacred Geometry is the blueprint of Creation and the genesis of all form. It is an ancient science that explores and explains the energy patterns that create and unify all things and reveals the precise way that the energy of Creation organizes itself. On every scale, every natural pattern of growth or movement conforms inevitably to one or more geometric shapes.
